THE MAKING OF THE MCCARRON BROTHERS

...well, I suppose you could blame Mark for having the gumption to call a bunch of guys to get together just to play, with no gigs in sight...and you could blame us for showing up!

From there on, it was just a matter of whiling away the Brooklyn afternoons at Doug's place. Truffles, Doug's foundling pitbull, was always there to lend support and constructive barking, or just to sit on our feet or lick our hands as we rehearsed. We played some jazz standards, we polished our originals, and we threw in tunes by Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, and the Headhunters. And finally one day we figured we had enough songs together to make it to the big time. And here we are.

Though not related by blood, we've sweated and suffered together enough to be considered brothers...

The circle of the brotherhood is ever widening. Doug relocated back home to North Carolina in 2010. He's on our latest CD No Moon Train, but we have welcomed NYC bassist Phil Palombi into the fold as the newest McCarron Brother.

Mark McCarron: guitars
Paul Carlon: tenor and soprano saxophones
Phil Palombi: acoustic and electric bass (replaced founding member Doug Largent in 2012)
Russ Meissner: drums

WAY DOWN IN BROOKLYN

Mixing John Scofield funk and Bitches Brew fusion influences, Frisell-ish country, Radiohead, and free jazz, our first CD Way Down in Brooklyn (Deep Tone Records, 2009) is the culmination of two years of regular jamming and one soulfully inspired day in the studio. Live, our penchant for sonic and electronic experimentation and improvisation contrasts with a love for singable pop melodies and a seriously funky groove.
